.
The exhibition ‚Mallorca and interpretation of landscape‘ presents a selection of works from the collection of the Es Baluard Museum that were created between 1872 and 1934, and depict the natural landscape of Majorca and the urban environment of the town of Palma.

At the onset of the 19th century the island became the chosen destination of writers and artists. Within the artistic realm, the Mallorcan context of the 19th century was linked to Romanticism and French Realism, with the portrait and genre focussing on traditional regional customs, historical paintings and landscape as a main genre.

The group of paintings in the selection portrays a variety of landscapes and settings in Majorca, and particularly scenes from the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains (Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Pollença…).
