Still exhibiting since the Nit de la Art is VASCO ARAÚJO with his <<identity stories, “making use of metaphorical narratives, plots characterised by solitude and divergences in order to represent allegorically the theme of change in the human being and the dichotomy between the real and the unreal, deceiving and deluding the spectator in the expectation that he believes what he sees or, ultimately, what he does not see”.

Caixa Forum 03/2013: Torres y rascacielos – “De Babel a Dubai”

Die Ausstellung gibt einen Überblick über den Bau von Wolkenkratzern, beginnend mit dem Mythos vom Turmbau zu Babel, welcher nach dem Buch von Genesis in Shinar gebaut und eine Quelle der Inspiration für europäische Künstler aus dem 13. Jahrhundert wurde, über die ersten Wolkenkratzer der Welt, Design, Struktur und Technik aufzeigend, bis hin zu Wolkenkratzern, die im 21. Jahrhundert gebaut wurden.

“Towers and Skyscrapers: From Babel to Dubai”

Since the creation of the myth of the Tower of Babel to the first skyscrapers, the number of supertall buildings has trebled this century. These buildings are one of the most important hallmarks of modernity and constitute an essential reference in terms of urban planning, taking architecture as the starting point to explore great questions in cultural history, seeking an overall vision going beyond the focus on particular styles and historical periods to suggest a broader understanding of architecture in the world around us.

This exhibition, curated by Robert Dulau (conservative Heritage chief of France) and Pascal Mory (architectural historian), currently running at Caixa Forum, looks at the grand evolution of the skyscraper where mankind embarked on a quest to advance it’s creativity, pusing boundaries in architecture and offering a journey through the history of these buildings through paintings, prints, 3D- models, photographs and video-installations.

Sala Pelaires 03/2013: Tots som putes ‘Un any d’art i mamades’

A group of fifteen artists, entitled ‘Tots som putes’, exhibits ‘Un any d’art i mamades’ at Sala Pelaires in March, reflecting the current art scene in Mallorca.

Albert Pinya, Tomas Spicolli, Max, Grip Face, Alona Vinc, Bel Fullana, Adriana Petit, Gerard Armengol, Tomeu Coll, Ian Waelder, Veru iche, Evarist Torres, Guillermo Rubi and Pablo Attfield are exhibiting their works.

Casal Solleric In’Sight’: La elegancia del dibujos

La elegancia del dibujo – Carlos Sáenz de Tejada (Modezeichnungen)
The Elegance of Drawing (Chronicles of Paris) by Carlos Sáenz de Tejada.

Featuring over 300 fashion drawings in ink, watercolours and gouaches painted by the avant-garde artist Carlos Sáenz de Tejada in Paris in the 1930s, this exhibit at the upper floor of the Casal Solleric is an authentic graphic chronicle of one of the great undiscovered avant-garde artists of the time. The painter, one of the greatest illustrators of his time, guides the visitor through the trends of the fashion capital of these days, portraying the new role women played during that period.

The exhibit, virtually an anthropological journey through fashion trends, is also a reflection of the new role of women in society at the time, his works an example of models of a stylized figuration, leaving aside his penchant for the avant-gardism of the early twentieth century or the social realism for which he became renowned during the 1920′s, being the wild years, and 1930s, the time of the Great Depression, time of revolution for fashion.

For nearly 10 years, Carlos Sáenz de Tejada, steeping in the surrealism of Dalí and Breton, was front row witness to the latest collections and inner workings of the leading Paris fashion houses, shows presented by Worth, Patou, Callot Soeurs, Heim, Paquin or Rochas – where the models were still known as mannequins.

These shows, written up and illustrated on the pages of the daily newspaper ABC and the weekly magazine Blanco y Negro, were recreated by the artist in international publications, such as the French magazines Jardin des Modes and Femina, the German fashion magazine Elegant Welt and the American magazine Harper’s Bazaar. Under a pseudonym he also illustrated for the competition, Vogue.

Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró: In’sight’ The Gaudí Series

This series in a separated part of the Fundació Miró holds a print series by Joan Miró dedicated to the great Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, whom Miró met in younger years while he was attending drawing classes at the Cercle de Sant Lluc. Miró admired Gaudi all his lifetime, and considered Gaudí’s works as one of his sources of inspiration. Miró decided to prepare this series, created at the Son Boter studio and printed in Barcelona in 1979 in an edition of 50, carefully in advance. For this purpose Miró contacted artist-engraver Joan Barbarà before proceeding, Barbarà later assisting him in the Gaudí series.

The Gaudí series comprises 21 prints in which Miró used all conceivable resources, ranging from most innovative methods, such as etching, collage, sugar-lift aquatint, carborundum and embossing to traditional techniques. The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró holds all the original designs that were used as a starting point for this series:
